Nigeria Takes Home the Gold!

A group of girls from Nigeria known as 'Team Save-A-Soul', recently won the gold at the World Technovation Challenge in Silicon Valley. This is an annual convention and competition when girls all over the world come to develop skills and technology to solve world problems. This is an extremely noteworthy event on its own. Not to mention the remarkable young women who participate. These are the world's future leaders and innovators. 

Team Save-A-Soul took home the top prize by developing a mobile application to help fight against fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria. 115 countries were represented in the competition, in which only 12 teams moved to the finals. Congrats! Truly a noble cause where 9% of drugs in the country failed the basic quality control tests and almost 17% of drugs in all of Africa. The World Health Organization has reported the high failure rate has seriously affected the credibility of Nigeria's healthcare system. For more information on the topic, check the USAID site.
